WNBA: CAITLIN CLARK MAKES HISTORY AGAIN AS INDIANA FEVER BEAT PHOENIX MERCURY, A’JA WILSON STARS IN LAS VEGAS ACES WIN
Caitlin Clark became the first rookie to have at least 20 points and 10 assists twice in a season as the Indiana Fever claimed their 10th win. The Fever held off a late fightback from the Phoenix Mercury to take the win 95-86. Meanwhile, A’ja Wilson continued her dominant form for the Las Vegas Aces in a 84-70 victory over the Atlanta Dream. Wilson scored 33 points and grabbed 18 rebounds.
Caitlin Clark continued to make history as the Indiana Fever took down the Phoenix Mercury 95-86.
After joining Angel McCoughtry as the only players in WNBA history to have at least 20 points and 10 assists in a game in their first season, Clark did it for a second game in a row to stand on her own as the only rookie to do it twice.
Clark posted 20 points, 13 assists and six rebounds for her fifth straight double-double as the Fever held off a late Mercury comeback led by Kahleah Copper to move to 10-14 for the season.
Kelsey Mitchell, who led the Fever in scoring with 28 points, gave Indiana an 81-50 lead with less than two minutes in the third quarter before the Mercury fought back by scoring 17 straight points.
Copper scored 20 of her game-high 36 points in the fourth to help the Mercury cut the lead down to four at one stage in the final quarter, but the Fever did enough to halt Phoenix’s run of three wins in a row.
Aliyah Boston was huge for the Fever, with 21 points, 13 rebounds, five assists, three steals and two blocks, while Clark – who was 8-of-16 from the field – tied the franchise record with her 13 assists.
