The former NFL quarterback is happy to recognize the accomplishments of both WNBA rookies.

Rookies Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese have helped the WNBA explode with attention this season, expanding their college rivalry into the professional ranks.

But as both rookies earned spots on the WNBA All-Star squad announced on Tuesday, NFL quarterback turned commentator Robert Griffin III made it clear that the accolades were both well-earned.

Griffin pushed aside any speculation that Clark and Reese earned All-Star spots due to the popularity of their rivalry and not their play on the court.

“Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese both earned the right to be WNBA All-Stars with their play individually,” Griffin wrote in a post on X. “Not JUST because of a rivalry. Not JUST because of popularity.

They are both BREAKING RECORDS and making a difference on and off the court in Indiana and Chicago.”

As The Associated Press noted, Clark and Reese will join a WNBA All-Star team that will play against the U.S. Olympic team, which includes league stars A’ja Wilson and Breanna Stewart.

Clark and Reese earned spots on the team through a combination of votes from media, players and fans, the report added.

Clark won the fan vote with 700,735 votes, while Reese came in fifth with 381,518 votes.

Clark could have another big accolade coming. Patrick Jay, the head of sportsbook for ESPN BET, told ESPN that the former Iowa star is the frontrunner to win Rookie of the Year.

“Clark’s unmatched popularity, performance analysis, the attention she got during a successful college hoops season and experience playing on a big stage are what make her so unique and a big favorite to win the Rookie of the Year award,” Jay said.
