Eamonn Holmes looked ’embarrassed’ when he addressed his split with Ruth Langsford on live TV today, according to body langauge expert, Judi James.

The TV star, 64, sent shockwaves through the showbiz industry on Saturday when it was announced he and Ruth, also 64, were getting a divorce after 14 years of marriage. Eamonn spoke about the split, briefly, on GB News today as he thanked viewers for supporting the couple.

However, the dad-of-four looked “embarrassed” during his delivery on live TV, according to Judi. Speaking about his appearance, she said: “Eamonn’s pose and his gestures suggested an air of embarrassment and a strong desire to get it over with and move on. His hands were clasped around his pen which he banged down on the desk in a baton gesture as he spoke, suggesting a need to self-motivate.

“His speech was injected with some harsh intakes of breath to suggest reluctance, but it was the eye cut-offs as he did this personal bit that suggested a desire to hide at this point.” She continued: “Looking down rather than at the camera he appeared reluctant to share any inner emotions with the fans.”

Speaking to viewers on the morning programme, Eamonn said: “So here we are on this Tuesday morning and a lot of politics. Just before we move on I would just like to thank people for your support for Ruth and I over the last few days as to the news of our separation. Your support for both of us is very much appreciated.” Earlier in the show, the Northern Irishman made a cryptic comment about the past weekend as he shared: “What a weekend it was.”

Casting her eye over his delivery, Judi claims the star “snuck in” his reference to Ruth, claiming Eamonn had been “told” to address their split, rather than speaking about it voluntarily. She said: Clearly way too much of a cynic to produce the kind of tear-sodden, hug-riddled outpourings his colleagues on This Morning became famous for when sharing their own private lives with the viewers, Holmes delivered his own marital-split speech in the body language mode of a man who has been told to share rather than chosen to do so.

“He snuck it in between news items so tightly you could barely hear the join at the end as he went from offering his appreciation for all the support to ‘the top story this morning…’ with barely a pause or change in tone.”

A source close to Eamonn had warned his fans he would be breaking his silence as he is “putting on a brave face” but is well aware he can’t escape public scrutiny.

They told The Sun: “Eamonn is always frank on camera and knows it will be odd for him to discuss the day’s news without mentioning his split so he’ll say a few words. He is putting on a brave face and will be the true professional he always is. Focusing on work will be a welcome distraction.”
