The UFC 300 concluded a few days back. The entire card featured a ton of exciting matchups, with several world champions in the prelims and the main card. The BMF bout between Justin Gaethje and Max Holloway stood out the most when Gaethje was knocked out in the final minute of the final round. Justin’s teammate and former world champion in the UFC, Kamaru Usman, reveals how the bout could have turned in Justin’s favor.
Justin Gaethje was the heavy favorite going into the fight, but Max Holloway defied the odds when he knocked him out and won the BMF strap.
Kamaru Usman reveals how Justin Gaethje could have won
Former champion Kamaru Usman has been in many title fights in his career. He is the former pound-for-pound number-one fighter in the organization. He knows how to win at the highest level in the organization. He was seen elaborating on how Justin Gaethje could have turned the tide in his favor. Kamaru Usman said,
The fight is completely dfferent had Justin changed levels and taken Max down once or twice. It gives us a different potential outcome in the fight.
Kamaru Usman clarified that Gaethje made it a striking battle between him and Holloway. According to Usman, things would have been a bit different if Justin had been a bit smarter, and Gaethje could have won via decision. Gaethje is a wrestler; he used to wrestle in college. Gaethje got hurt in the first round when Max broke his nose via a spinning back kick to his face.
The broken nose greatly affected Justin’s breathing throughout his fight. Max arguably won every round of their fight. Holloway displayed his striking skills when he put down Gaethje in the final round. Holloway inflicted some massive damage on Gaethje throughout twenty-five minutes. Gaethje and Holloway gave their all during the BMF bout, and the scrap was the true essence of why the UFC formed the BMF title in the first place. It’ll be interesting to see what happens with Gaethje in the future.
