Mike Tyson will come out “throwing bombs” in the first round of his fight against Jake Paul before the 58 year old tires, according to Hall of Fame promoter Frank Warren
The rules for the upcoming boxing match between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul have been labeled as “ridiculous” by Hall of Fame promoter Frank Warren.
The bout, which is set to take place on July 20 at the Dallas Cowboys stadium, will see ‘Iron Mike’ Tyson, aged 58, go up against social media sensation Paul. Despite a significant age gap of 31 years, the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations has given the green light for the fight to proceed as a professional bout, meaning it will be recorded on both fighters’ records.
Warren, from Queensbury Promotions, expressed his disbelief at the fight being professionally sanctioned during an interview with talkSPORT. He said: “I’m a big fan of Jake Paul as a promoter and his business partner Nakisa [Bidarian]. They’re very smart operators and they obviously see this fight will generate public interest and money.”
“Let’s be clear, it’s like being stuck in a traffic jam on the highway. You finally reach the end and realize it’s just people slowing down to gawk at an accident. That’s what this is. For one round, you’ll see vintage Mike Tyson, throwing punches left and right. But after that, it’ll just be a 58-year-old man in the ring with a younger guy.”
The contentious bout will span eight rounds, each lasting two minutes, with both Paul and Tyson donning 14-ounce gloves and no headgear. Paul has been widely criticized for taking on Tyson long after his prime, but he believes the former undisputed heavyweight champion will be his most challenging adversary yet.
“I wasn’t joking when I said this would be a real fight. See you in July, Jake Paul,” Tyson posted on Twitter. It’s believed that Tyson, who hung up his gloves nearly twenty years ago with a professional record of 50-6 (2NC), will need to pass brain and heart examinations to be deemed fit to fight due to his age.
