Body language expert Judi James says there was a ‘chemistry drought’ amongst couples – apart from between the two not together

FANS have been rooting for former flames Molly Smith and Callum Jones to reunite for the entirety of All Stars.

But both headed out of the Love Island final with different partners.

Body language expert Judi James isn’t surprised viewers wanted a reunion, given the body language of the ex-lovers.

She tells The Sun: “The more Callum and Molly protested they were just good friends last night, the more their body language signals seemed to call them out as liars.

“Theirs should have been the best ‘will-they-won’t-they?’ romantic story line of the series. Exes arrive fighting before battling it out through the weeks together on the island, before falling into each others’ arms and walking off with the prize money.

“Only instead they both walked off in the arms of someone else, but only before a very cringe interview together on the Love Island sofa.”

Molly, 29, won the All Stars with new beau Tom Clare, 24, while Callum, 27, left with Jess Gale, 24.

And Judi says she didn’t get the impression that a single one of the couples were actually in love with each other.

She said: “I found that there was what I would call a chemistry drought last night. I’m not sure that any of them were truly convincing in terms of the body language of love.”

Here, she outlines the key moments that show how the former couple really feel about them.

No ‘happy ending’?

Most couples who are head over heels can’t help but stare adoringly into each other’s eyes – especially when battling for a £50k prize on TV – but that wasn’t happening for one pair in the final.

In fact, it seemed Callum did all he could but look into partner Jess’s eyes as they discussed their romance, just inches away from Molly.

Judi said: “Callum’s eye contact or lack of it with Jess as they discussed their ‘happy ending’ was notable. With Molly sitting beside him, he seemed unable to gaze into Jess’s adoring eyes.”

She adds: “When we’re in love, one of the biggest giveaways is the eye expression. We use a lot of eye contact with the other person.

“We almost can’t drag our eyes off their face because we want to ‘read’ them, we want to see if their pupils are dilated, because that is a physiological effect of being in love.

“So without realising it, we’re checking out for pupil dilation, all sorts of things, even when we’re not looking at them.”

Jess’s daggers

It seems everyone on the show except Callum and Molly are aware of their unresolved feelings for each other.

Host Maya Jama accidentally stirred the pot even more when she mentioned Molly by name while talking to Jess and her partner.

She was addressing why Callum chose his former flame when they both arrived as bombshells, leading him to say he didn’t “regret” his choice.

Judi added: “Jess’s facial expression when Molly was mentioned… Jess’s smile looks weather-proof but her expression looked a little sick at this point.”

It comes after Molly looking upset during the series as Jess gushed about her dates with Callum.

It’s all about the feet

One key way to tell if people are interested in each other? Look at their feet.

Judi said: “If [Molly] is so allergic to [Callum], why are her legs crossed towards him and her foot held very close to his?

“Feet and legs often register intentional thinking or direction of travel, in which case Tom might need to delay finding that love nest in Manchester for him and Molly.

“Callum had his ankles crossed in Molly’s direction and his top foot was doing circling movements, which is a sign of happiness. Molly’s foot was also waving about.”

Touch and go

Public displays of affection are a common bugbear when it comes to new couples.

But there was little of this with Callum and Jess, who claimed they like each other and will keep dating on the outside.

Judi explained: “Callum looked deflated on the warm-up to the finale and he appeared to have very little if any ‘gestural finish’ with Jess.

“This is a very powerful body language cue, when someone sits with their arm round their partner, but the hand doesn’t make contact with the partner’s body, either hanging limply in the air or barely touching their torso.

“It’s often less about the arm gesture and more about the ‘finishing’ of the hand touch, which provides an intimate method of communication as well as registering sexual attraction.”

Maya’s cheeky comment

Maya added more fuel to the fire when she attempted to empathise with the former couple.

She even compared them to her rocky, on-off relationship with her partner, Stormzy.

Judi said: “The chef’s kiss though came when Maya tried to create empathy with Molly and Callum by saying she’d been in the same situation with everyone saying she should get back with her ex.

“Only that ex was Stormzy, who was sitting behind her and who is now the love of her life.

“Which might not have proved the point Callum and Molly were desperate to make about their own relationship!”
