The Welterweight division of the UFC is an exciting spot. Leon Edwards is currently the division’s king. He last defended his belt against Colby Covington in the Octagon a few months back. Leon Edwards was earlier criticized for not being an active fighter in the octagon. As it turns out, those allegations have again made Leon a plausible contender. Joaquin Buckley was spotted criticizing for not being active enough in the UFC.
Joaquin Buckley is one of the most active fighters on the UFC roster. He moved from Middleweight to Welterweight to increase his odds of becoming a champion.
Joaquin Buckley slams Leon Edwards
Joaquin Buckley is one of the most outspoken fighters on the UFC roster. Buckley holds the bragging rights to have probably the best knockout in the history of the UFC. When he knocked out his opponent with a reverse head kick, the clip sent waves across social media. Buckley recently went down hard on Welterweight champion of the world, Leon Edwards. Buckley said,
He has 14 UFC fights in 10 years. I have 12 in four.
Buckley quickly pointed out that Leon only got 14 fights in the last decade, whereas he got 12 in four years in the company. Joaquin Buckley wants the champion to be in the octagon more often so the Welterweight division can move forward at a suitable pace. Edwards’s next fight is yet to be announced by the company. Joaquin Buckley won his last three fights in the division and would love to continue the momentum on his next.
Leon Edwards had reportedly accepted UFC’s fight offers against Khamzat Chimaev and Shavkat Rakhmanov, but the fight eventually fell apart mainly because of the Ramadan festival, as both Shavkat and Khamzat have Islamic origins. It’ll be interesting to see what happens in the UFC in the near future. Will Leon Edwards fight in the upcoming months, or will Edwards fight before the end of the year? Remains to be seen. If Edwards and Buckley are to meet in the future, how will the fight go?
