GB News’s Royal Correspondent has cast doubt on whether Princess Kate will accompany Prince William on her first overseas trip since her cancer diagnosis for the upcoming Earthshot Prize Awards in South Africa.

In the latest episode of The Royal Record podcast, GB News’s Digital Royal Editor Cameron Walker and Svar Nanan-Sen discussed the upcoming Earthshot Prize ceremony, which is set to take place in Cape Town, South Africa.

Prince William, 42, founded the Earthshot Prize in 2020 with the aim of finding innovative solutions to help defeat the global challenge of climate change. The prestigious annual awards show celebrates and rewards those individuals and organizations who have made significant positive contributions to the environment.

Last year’s Earthshot Prize ceremony was held in Singapore, which Princess Kate did not attend. However, the future Queen Consort was present at the awards in Boston in 2022 and London in 2021, prior to her cancer diagnosis.

Svar Nanan-Sen spoke about Prince William’s overseas travels so far this year, including his attendance at the Euro 2024 final in Berlin. He noted that there were initial uncertainties surrounding William’s travel plans due to concerns over Catherine’s health, but the prince has now undertaken several international trips.

Regarding the upcoming Earthshot Prize event in South Africa, Svar stated that with Kate’s recent public appearances, it seems more likely that Prince William will attend the ceremony. However, he added that there is “no confirmation” yet on whether the Princess of Wales will join her husband on this trip.

Cameron Walker expressed surprise if Prince William were to miss the Earthshot Prize ceremony, as he has attended every edition of the event since its inception in 2020. However, the Royal Editor acknowledged that Princess Kate’s participation remains uncertain, as she did not accompany William to the 2022 awards in Singapore, citing her involvement in Prince George’s educational matters.
