A‘ja Wilson was up for the challenge against Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky on Tuesday, giving the star rookie a “welcome to the WNBA” moment.
After helping lead a big second-half rally to erase a double-digit deficit, Wilson had a viral moment when she delivered a monster block on Reese’s attempt to re-take the lead.
Wilson’s block came after the Aces rallied from down 13 points to tie the game at 69-69. Reese drove to the basket but Wilson closed out quickly, sending her 3-foot layup attempt sailing out of bounds.
The block drew a big reaction on social media, with many commenting on the authoritative play from Wilson.
“A’ja Wilson just blocked Angel Reese into next month,” one fan wrote on X.
Others pointed out that Wilson was having a great all-around game against the Sky rookie, keeping Reese largely in check on defense.
“A’ja Wilson giving Angel Reese an education right now,” another fan wrote on X.
“A’JA WILSON EMBARRASSING ANGEL REESE,” commented another.
Wilson also made a bit of history in the game, reaching third on the all-time franchise list for steals.
Though Wilson earned some praise from fans for her block on Reese, the play wasn’t enough to hold off the Sky. Reese recorded a double-double as her team retook the lead in the fourth quarter and held on to win 93-85.
