Fans were thrilled to see Reese and her former college rival, Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark, play on the same team for the first time.
While Clark was named as a starter on the All-Star roster, along with DeWanna Bonner, Jonquel Jones, Arike Ogunbowale, and Nneka Ogwumike, Reese was not.
However, the No. 7 overall pick, who made WNBA history earlier this month with the longest streak of double-doubles (15), did the most with the minutes she had on the court against Team USA.
During her first three minutes of action, she tied the league record for the most offensive rebounds (5) by a rookie in an All-Star game.
For reference, Team USA entered that half with a total of 3 offensive rebounds. Reese, who put up 4 points , 1 steal, and 7 total rebounds in the first half, still has plenty of time to add to her stats.
Clark predicted Reese would lead in that category during the All-Star game.
“She is probably going to lead the game in rebounds,” she told reporters on July 18. “I expect that out of her, that’s just what she does.”
The WNBA All-Star team, coached by the legendary Cheryl Miller, entered halftime down 45-48. Clark entered the half with 4 points and a team-high 6 assists, 1 steal and 1 block.
