Not everyone’s a sports fan, and summer can be a frustrating time for those of us who prefer watching a quiz show to Wimbledon or the football.

Many quiz fans look forward to a Saturday evening in front of the telly watching Michael McIntyre host The Wheel. On the show, three contestants join forces with a variety of celebrity “expert” guests in a bid to win life-changing sums of money. Each episode features three contestants who find themselves on a wheel located directly beneath the main celebrity wheel.

After one person is selected at random, they find themselves elevated to the centre of the celebrity wheel above and remain there until they get a question wrong.

Tonight, however, anyone tuning in to watch The Wheel would have been disappointed. It was scheduled to start at 9pm, with England’s game against Switzerland delaying its usual start time.

But once the football ended, the BBC decided to extend its coverage of the tennis and show the Wimbledon match between Novak Djokovic and Alexei Popyrin, shunting The Wheel off the schedule.

Fans of The Wheel were not happy with the decision. On Twitter/X, a number of people complained about their favourite show being sacrificed for the tennis.

One user said: “When’s The Wheel on? Stuff tennis.”

Another said: “Not worth having a TV if you don’t like sport.”

Another added: “I see us non-sport fans have been mucked about again.”

Other users questioned why the BBC hadn’t switched the tennis to BBC 2. One woman said: “You could easily switch the match over. Not happy.”
