Iowa star Caitlin Clark appeared on the ‘ManningCast’ for ESPN and compared Kansas City Chiefs duo Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce to her teammates in NCAA college basketball

NCAA college basketball star Caitlin Clark was only to happy to talk about her love for the Kansas City Chiefs, but was also quick to make a telling comparison with her Iowa team.

Clark was a guest on the ‘ManningCast’ for ESPN’s coverage of ‘Monday Night Football’ between the Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles. Kansas City lost the game 21-17 to fall to 7-3 for the season, while the Eagles moved on to 9-1 for the year.

NFL icons Peyton and Eli Manning co-hosted the ‘ManningCast’ that saw Clark, as well as Mark Wahlberg, join the show as guests.

Clark believes the Chiefs offense, centered around quarterback and to-time MVP Patrick Mahomes and his primary receiving target Travis Kelce, has plenty of similarity to a basketball offense she knows well – her own.

“They’re one of the best duos,” said Clark. “I think it’s similar to how we run the offense at Iowa. Good point guard, a good post player. Good quarterback, great tight end. And they’re fun to watch. They make football exciting.”

Kelce scored one touchdown in the loss to the Eagles, from a Mahomes pass. It was the 51st touchdown the pair have linked up for, the most for a duo in franchise history and now tied for the fourth most in NFL history with Drew Brees and Jimmy Graham.

Clark, who is in her fourth season with Iowa, has been a Chiefs fan for almost all of her life. The 21-year-old went on to say how she, despite growing up in a different state, found her way to the team.

“I’ve been a Chiefs fan since I was a young girl,” Clark said. “My brother was a Chiefs fan, my Dad was a Chiefs fan. I have cousins in Kansas City that were Chiefs fans.”

“It was just all I knew,” Clark added. “I had a lot of cousins in Kansas City that loved the Chiefs. It would be a yearly thing where we would go down there and watch Chiefs games.

Clark has played five games for Iowa this season and is averaging 31.0 points per game, 7.4 rebounds, and 8.0 assists – Clark recently scored 35 points, six rebounds, and 10 assists in a win over Drake on Sunday night. And there continues to be speculation about whether or not Clark will enter the 2024 WNBA Draft.

The 21-year-old, who won the National Player of the Year award for the 2022-23 season, will be eligible to enter the WNBA Draft next summer. Clark will also have the option of playing for a fifth year at Iowa and wait to enter the WNBA.
