In a touching tribute to Caitlin Clark‘s remarkable achievements, the Iowa women’s basketball team honored their star guard with a special gesture. At Carver-Hawkeye Arena, a “22 Clark” decal now marks the precise spot where Clark made a record-breaking deep three-pointer against Michigan, setting a new NCAA Division 1 women’s scoring record on February 15.

Clark’s reaction to the tribute was characterized by humility, emphasizing her team’s collective success over individual accolades. She described the decal as “super special” but jokingly claimed that she is unsure whether it was the same spot where she took the shot from.

Caitlin Clark’s NCAA scoring record called into question by Pistol Pete’s son

“I didn’t really see it until I came out to warm up,” Clark said.

“I knew, because coach [Lisa] Bluder had told me about it. It’s cool. Honestly, it seems a bit further back than where I actually shot it from, but that’s where they claim I shot it from.

“It’s super special; that’s something I’ll always remember and a shot I’ll always remember. I’m thankful for this university and the athletic department that wanted to do that; they didn’t have to do that.”

Expected to set new records

With 3,617 points, Clark stands just 33 points away from surpassing Lynette Woodard‘s record for the most points in women’s major college basketball. Moreover, she is within reach of the all-time NCAA Division I record for both men and women, currently held by LSU’s Pete Maravich at 3,667 points.

In their recent game against Illinois, the Hawkeyes showcased their strength in a decisive 101-85 victory, rebounding from a previous loss to Indiana. Clark led the charge with 24 points, 15 rebounds, and 10 assists, notching her fifth triple-double of the season and 16th overall.
