With every broken record, Caitlin Clark is setting new standards for college basketball. She has racked up insane numbers with her spectacular game. This season, she broke the all-time Division I women’s scoring record. However, that wouldn’t have been entirely possible without her teammates’ contribution. One of the star players beside Clark is Kylie Feuerbach.
Managing a great game throughout the season, Kylie finally earned the No. 4 Iowa’s success. She was ranked No. 71 in her recruiting class by ESPN. During her 24 appearances, the 23-year-old averaged 2.4 points, 1.4 rebounds, and 0.8 assists per game. Because of her injury, she ended up missing the entire 2022-23 season. However, she made a powerful comeback into the 2023-24 season. Speaking of her performance after her injury, Clark noted, “Kylie Feuerbach comes in and gives us great minutes coming back from an ACL injury last year. That was really good to see her come out and give us really a good spark there in the third quarter.”
Like Clark, Feuerbach was spectacular as she achieved her season-high with 13 points in a game against Minnesota this season. Furthermore, she also made her career-best four steals. It was back in April 2021, when the 23-year-old decided to bring her talent to the Iowa Hawkeyes after playing for the in-state rivals, Iowa Cyclones.
Kylie Feuerbach’s run with the Iowa State Cyclones
She played the 2020-21 season under the guidance of Cyclones head coach Bill Fennelly. She had the opportunity to play in 24 out of 28 games. That also included the NCAA First tournament games against formidable Michigan State. The second-round tournament game against Texas A&M also saw her make a season-best seven rebounds. With the Cyclones, Feuerbach averaged 5.5 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. She scored her career-high points of 17 points for the team against Kansas and achieved the Big 12 Conference Freshman titles twice. Including being a four-year letter winner, her high school career at Sycamore High School also boasts of a record of 2000 points.
She was also a part of the All-Iowa Attack AAU squad which won the national title in 2018. That was the beginning of a friendship between the two. During a conversation with My State Line, Feuerbach spoke about her experience of playing alongside Clark. “Coming into here, I kind of knew what to expect with her, and she’s just an amazing player like you think she can’t and she just keeps growing and it’s like she’s shooting it further and further, but it’s really fun and she’s growing every day. She’s a really fun player to play with,” said Feuerbach.
Furthermore, she also revealed the reason behind her choosing the Iowa rival team. Along with opportunities, it was because of the “culture and the coaches.” She added how she has a great relationship with her teammates. A glimpse of their strong bond can be seen on her social media. She has posted numerous pictures of her enjoying time off with her Hawkeyes teammates. One of those shows her having a good time alongside her teammates in Italy.
Born to parents Steve and Lisa Feuerbach, the business major student has four siblings. A quick stroll through her Instagram will show you pictures of her adorable dates with her boyfriend, John Poulakidas. John plays as the shooting guard for the Yale Bulldogs.
After Feuerbach’s run with the Cyclones, Feuerbach has brought the same impact to the Iowa Hawkeyes. Having said that, we will surely get to see more wonders from the 23-year-old sensation.
