Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green explained how the Indiana Fever will need to protect Caitlin Clark, with the star rookie constantly being the target of physical play from opponents
NBA veteran Draymond Green thinks players in the WNBA have it out for Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark and has offered his advice on how the team can protect its star player. “Indiana better go invest in an enforcer… FAST!” Green wrote on Instagram.
In the third quarter of the Fever’s 71-70 win over the Chicago Sky, Clark was waiting for the ball to be inbounded when Chennedy Carter came from behind and pushed the rookie to the ground. After officials reviewed the play, Carter was assessed a flagrant foul.
On the sideline, it appeared as if Angel Reese was applauding Carter’s actions, as cameras spotted the Sky rookie jumping up after seeing Clark hit the deck. After the game, Carter elected not to expound on her actions when she spoke with reporters.
“I ain’t answering no Caitlin Clark questions. I don’t know what she said. I didn’t say anything,” she said. Carter then took to X to make sure the messages she received were not affecting her in the slightest: “Troll notifications blowing up. I love it.”
Afterward, Green, who is known for his own physical play, made sure to share his thoughts regarding the numerous incidents Clark seemingly finds herself in each game.
Clark also made sure to have her comments known about the situation, acknowledging that what Carter did was “not a basketball play” and pondering how she could adjust.

“But you know I’ve gotta play through it, that’s what basketball is about at this level,” Clark said between the third and fourth quarters. “I thought we’ve been really physical, we’ve missed some bunnies around the rim, so hopefully those fall in the fourth.”
For her part, Clark understands that with her being the No. 1 overall pick, there is added pressure and a larger target on her back than any usual player. Clark is taking everything she can and explained how she planning to work through the pressure.
“I think everybody is physical with me, they get away with things that probably other people don’t get away with. It’s tough, but that’s just the fact of the matter,” the 22-year-old said after the Fever’s loss to the Los Angeles Sparks earlier in the week. “This is a very physical game, and you’re going to get pressure, this is professional basketball. It is what it is, honestly.”
Meanwhile, Christie Sides, Clark’s coach, explained how she feels about how the star rookie has been treated and has been contacting the league regarding the former Iowa star’s games have become relatively dangerous. “I’m trying not to get fined,” Sides said with a sarcastic laugh.
“We’re just gonna keep sending these possessions to the league and these plays and hopefully they’ll start taking a better look at some of the things we see happening or we think is happening. Just more happy that Caitlin handled it the way she did.
“It’s tough to keep getting hammered the way she does and to not get rewarded with free throws or just a foul call. She’s continuing to fight through them. I appreciate that from her, really, really proud of her for doing that.”
