Sunday will bring the second WNBA rematch between Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark and Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese.

These two rookies rose to global superstardom in tandem, after Reese taunted Clark in the waning moments of the 2023 NCAA Championship game.

Now, well over a year later, both women have risen to an unprecedented level of fame, and have helped catapult women’s basketball to a new stratosphere within the eyes of pop culture.

WNBA players should be thankful that players like Clark and Reese have come along. And one player that wasn’t afraid to praise them is Mercury Phoenix center, Brittney Griner.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Griner said of these two rookies, “I love the hype.”

“I love everything. I love the fact that we have all these new fans. I think the momentum is definitely growing,” Griner added.

Griner is all for the added attention that Reese and Clark bring to her league. And we expect that she’ll be watching live when the two iconic rookies meet again on Sunday.

Angel Reese 'provokes' Caitlin Clark with new Reebok Joker trainers

WNBA star Angel Reese has got herself some new trainers and many think that she could be attempting to provoke old rival Caitlin Clark with them.

The two youngsters are both in their debut WNBA season, Reese with the Chicago Sky and Clark with the Indiana Fever. The two starred in the NCAA championship last season and earned their places in the professional league.

The Sky are going to be up against the Fever in their next game and it has been revealed that Reese is going to be wearing Joker-themed Reebok shoes for the big fixture.

The shoes are purple on top with a thick white sole, and there is a lot of red detailing that has the Joker’s famous laugh written all over it.

They are custom-made and were designed by Marvin Baroota, and they will certainly stand out on the court.

A big rivalry

Whilst the shoes do not say or suggest anything specific about Clark, there is no denying that there is a serious rivalry that developed in the NCAA between Clark and Reese, and the WNBA as a product is benefitting hugely from it.

Former WNBA star Chiney Ogwumike recently spoke about who she thinks the face of WNBA is right now.

“[A’ja Wilson] is currently the back-to-back champion. She is currently right now playing like an MVP. Have you seen the history she’s made? Breaking a streak by Tina Charles, most 25-point games in a row. She is the most dominant player in the WNBA right now. But we’re experiencing a shift where, for better or worse, she’s not necessarily the face of the league. The face of the league is now Caitlin Clark,” she said.
