Travis Kelce, the Kansas City Chiefs superstar, is reported to have shelled out an astronomical amount to secure a suite for his pop star girlfriend Taylor Swift and his loved ones at Super Bowl LVIII.

As the highest paid tight end in NFL history, 34 year old Kelce is set to earn a staggering $34 million over the next two years following a recent contract extension. His substantial wealth came into play back in February when he splurged to ensure his nearest and dearest could be there to see him scoop up his third Super Bowl ring.

The star’s entourage including his “Love Story” hitmaker girlfriend attended the match at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas in true VIP style, enthusiastically cheering on her beau from the comforts of a plush box. After turning up to 13 games throughout last season, she was kept company by pals Ice Spice and Blake Lively, as well as Donna and Jason Kelce, during the Super Bowl showpiece.

Kelce has now confirmed that the VIP box he treated his entourage to in Sin City earlier this year cost him an eye-watering sum. Discussing the expense on Netflix’s series “Receiver”, he told the San Francisco 49ers’ George Kittle that some suites in the stadium were going for up to $3 million.

In the case of Kittle, he opted not to fork out for a private box, insisting his family and friends would be “fine” mingling with the regular crowd. Before this revelation, Kelce had admitted on his “New Heights” podcast that the Super Bowl expenses were causing him a headache: “I’m not really doing much different other than just counting how much money I’m spending on this damn Super Bowl for family and friends to come. Just making sure I’m on top of those finances and losing all this money.”

Even his mother Donna voiced her uncertainty about being in a box for the big game, telling the TODAY show: “Well, you can understand that the boxes in Vegas are multi-million dollars so I have a feeling I’m not in a box. I have a feeling I am in the stands. As far as I know I am in the stands with everybody else because it is a pricey Super Bowl.”

However, the sight of Kelce’s nearest and dearest enjoying the game from a box confirmed that the Chiefs tight end had splashed out after all. With Swift also in attendance, Chiefs owner Clark Hunt expressed his delight at having the pop star as a fan, saying before the match: “Having Taylor as a new Chiefs fan is very unique.”

“I don’t ever do an interview without someone asking me about it. I think a lot of players and coaches on the team are in the same boat. The most important thing is we’re happy for the two of them that they have found each other and have such a special relationship.”

Kelce wasn’t alone in his shock at the suite prices for the game; Christian McCaffrey’s mum Lisa also expressed her disbelief on the “Your Mom” podcast, saying: “We looked into a suite, and none of us can afford it,” and humorously pointed out: “Not even Christian, money bags over there, nor money bags, Olivia. So, we are not in a suite. I will tell you that right now.”
