The search for a Lakers coach has become a real soap opera in recent weeks and even more so following the imbroglio surrounding Dan Hurley.

The latter’s refusal also made a former league player lose his temper.

We learned in recent hours, JJ Redick had an interview with the Lakers.

While waiting to know the decision of the Californian leaders, there is a good chance that it will be the former sniper who will become Darvin Ham’s successor as head coach.

Especially since the options are dwindling day by day, James Borrego is moving closer to the Cavaliers while Dan Hurley has returned to UConn.

The latter has also made quite a stir recently, becoming the favorite for the position ahead of Redick according to Adrian Wojnarowski.

Except that Hurley ultimately refused an offer of $70 million over six years in order to stay with the Huskies whom he has just led to two consecutive university championship titles.

Former NBA player, Eddie Johnson, however, has difficulty understanding the motivations of the renowned tactician.

Eddie Johnson guns Dan Hurley after his Lakers snub

He didn’t want this pressure. Good for him, it’s his choice. But don’t try to convince me that winning three titles in cheap college basketball is better than winning one in Los Angeles.

Hurley’s objective with Connecticut is simple: after having succeeded in the back-to-back, it is now the three-peat which is aimed. It would indeed be crazy but according to Johnson, it would actually only be crazy on paper as he questions the level of play in the NCAA. While leading these Lakers to the NBA title would be a much more resounding feat… This is also what the former Kings supported with the fans.

Ol_Dirty_Rooster : The Lakers are very far from being able to win another title.

Eddie Johnson : Exactly, that’s all the pressure.

Eliminated in the first round this year, it is difficult to see the Lakers of an admittedly very strong but aging LeBron James playing the leading roles in 2024-25. Dan Hurley would therefore have impressed even more if he had managed to make it a very good team according to Eddie Johnson. An opinion that can be defended, but we also understand the choice of the coach.
