After Caitlin Clark announced her decision to move towards the WNBA, fans are now eagerly awaiting news about the NCAA future of Angel Reese. Known as the “Bayou Barbie,” Reese was instrumental in LSU’s championship run last season and is aiming to replicate that success this time around. Whether she achieves it or not, her supporters are keen to see her extend her time at LSU for another year.
Angel Reese and Hailey Van Lith’s Response to Fan Demands
Two standout performers from LSU, Angel Reese and Hailey Van Lith, responded to some pressing questions from the press. Both were asked about their reactions to hearing chants of “one more year” from the crowd during their games. Reese was the first to respond, stating, “That’s a lot of pressure.
Of course, the fan base here is amazing. Of course, I might never experience anything like this again. You think about that when you’re trying to make a decision. I do love LSU and everything about it. The support here has made me who I am. The Bayou Barbie because of LSU.
So, it’s a lot of pressure, of course. But, I’m just trying to focus on the now and live in the moment.”
Following Reese’s response, Van Lith also shared her thoughts on the matter. She said, “Obviously, it feels good.
The fans want you back so badly, and this community really cherishes us and the support for women’s basketball in Baton Rouge itself. It’s just a really special thing.
You can’t say much. I just love that the fans want us here so badly.”
Their LSU Stats Speak for Themselves
Angel Reese and Hailey Van Lith have both made significant contributions to LSU’s success on the court. Reese, wearing No. 10, is in her second season with the Lady Tigers. In her first season, she played in 36 games and maintained a double-double average of 23 points and 15.4 rebounds per contest. In the current campaign, she continues to impress, averaging 19.1 points and 13 rebounds per game. Meanwhile, Van Lith, wearing No. 11, is having a standout debut season for the defending champions. In all 26 games, she has averaged 12.3 points and a field goal percentage of 40.1.
Undoubtedly, both athletes have been essential to LSU’s success on the court. While head coach Kim Mulkey refrains from influencing their decisions, fans are sure to play a role. Only time will tell what the future holds for Reese and Van Lith, but their contributions to LSU are undeniable.
