Shake Milton has secured a contract buyout with the Detroit Pistons and looks to be heading elsewhere for the postseason.

The move allowed Milton to meet the March 1 waiver deadline for playoff eligibility.

Milton played only four games for Detroit after joining from the Minnesota Timberwolves at the trade deadline.

Now he is planning to sign with the New York Knicks, per ESPN.

The Knicks are currently having to deal with injuries to a number of key players.

They are missing starters OG Anunoby, Julius Randle, and Mitchell Robinson.

And Milton, 27, could provide valuable backcourt depth in the remainder of the season.

Milton played college basketball for Southern Methodist University from 2015 to 2018.

He switched to the professional game in 2018, being drafted 54th overall that year by the Dallas Mavericks.

He was then traded to the Philadelphia 76ers on draft night and spent five years with the team.

As a rookie, he appeared in 20 games for the Sixers, averaging 4.4 points and 1.8 rebounds.

He made his first career start against the Los Angeles Lakers in January 2020, with seven points, three assists, and nine rebounds.

In March 2020, he then scored a career-high 39 points, despite the team going down to defeat against the Los Angeles Clippers.

Milton ended up playing more than 300 games in Philadelphia, including a career record 76 in the 2021-22 season. That was followed by 12 more in the playoffs.

Across his last three seasons, he averaged nearly 10 points per game.

Now it appears his next stop will be in New York as the 2024 NBA season comes to its climax.
