Chicago Sky shooting guard Chennedy Carter doesn’t appear remorseful after her nasty foul on Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark during Saturday’s clash.

Plenty of WNBA fans had marked the contest between the two teams on their calendars, as it was the first meeting between Clark and Angel Reese in the pros. However, Carter vs. Clark has been dominating the headlines instead.

Carter had a game to remember as she enjoyed a 19-point performance to lead all scorers. But the Sky could not come up with the win, falling to 3-4 with a 71-70 loss.

The Fever won their second game of the season, their first at home, to go 2-8. Still, the biggest talking point stemmed from late in the third quarter, when Chennedy hit a jumper and then hit Caitlin with a hefty body check while she was waiting for the inbound pass.

It appears the referees didn’t frown on the move as it was adjudged to be a common foul, with Clark being awarded one free throw.

Chennedy Carter is Not Sorry

Chennedy Carter  refused to discuss the foul or Caitlin Clark during the postgame presser, telling reporters, “I ain’t answering no Caitlin Clark questions.”

She has since liked multiple tweets praising her body check on Clark.

It appears many people liked what they saw, though many are calling on the WNBA to do something about the rough treatment the former Iowa star has been receiving since getting drafted.

Sky’s Angel Reese thanks Alyssa Thomas for ‘sending a message’ after veteran was ejected for flagrant foul

Prior to the Chicago Sky’s 86-82 loss to the Connecticut Sun on Saturday, rookie forward Angel Reese spoke about how excited she was to play against Alyssa Thomas due to their Maryland connection. Thomas, it seemed, did not feel the same way.

Late in the third quarter, the two were battling for a rebound under the basket when Thomas grabbed Reese by the neck and threw her to the ground. Reese smacked the back of her head on the floor but was uninjured on the play and remained in the game. The referees immediately went to the monitor to review the situation and upgraded the foul to a Flagrant 2 on Thomas, which comes with an automatic ejection.

Reese, for her part, harbored no ill will toward Thomas. In fact, she even thanked her during her postgame press conference.

“It’s not just cause I’m a rookie,” Reese said about the foul. “I’m a player. I’m a basketball player. They don’t give a damn if I’m a rookie. I mean, I want them to come at me every day, I want them to come at everybody. I mean, they’re not supposed to be nice to me. I hope you all know that. They’re not supposed to be nice to me or lay down because I’m Angel Reese or cause I’m a rookie.

“Like, thank you A.T. for sending a message to me because I got back up and kept going and kept pushing. Like, me and A.T. have been cool since we were in Maryland, so I know it’s not no hard feelings. I appreciate her for going at me every day.”

Reese, who is off to a solid start since being selected No. 7 overall in the 2024 WNBA Draft last month, finished with 13 points and five rebounds in the defeat. For the season, she is averaging 12.3 points and 7.8 rebounds, which rank second and first among rookies.

Caitlin Clark tells JuJu Watkins spotlight is on her now, Fever star offers support while practicing at USC

Caitlin Clark was the biggest star in college basketball for the last two seasons, but now that she’s moved on to the WNBA, there’s room for someone else to step into the spotlight. Clark, like so many others, expects it to be USC guard JuJu Watkins.

In fact, Clark told Watkins as much herself at the Wooden Awards in Los Angeles last month. Both were finalists for the Wooden Award — given to the best player in college basketball — which Clark won for the second year in a row.

“She was like, ‘I had this attention for a year and a half, two years,'” USC coach Lindsay Gottlieb told The Orange County Register, remembering Clark’s words to Watkins. “She said to JuJu, ‘You’re going to have it for the next three.'”

Clark went even further last week when she met Gottlieb after the Indiana Fever’s practice at USC’s Galen Center ahead of their matchup with the Los Angeles Sparks — a game Clark sealed with two ridiculous 3-pointers in the final minute. She gave the USC coach her phone number and offered to help her and Watkins navigate the coming pressure.

“I’m certainly going to utilize that as a resource, if she’s this willing,” Gottlieb said. “I think that’s just a neat thing. And I do think it’s really cool on her part to be willing to pay it forward, so to speak, and help someone else.”

That is a terrific gesture from Clark, who knows better than anyone what Watkins is about to go through. There will be media responsibilities, constant attention from fans, both online and in real life, and expectations to produce every time she steps on the court.

Clark admitted earlier this year it gets overwhelming at times.

“The hardest part about being Caitlin Clark I would say is having to feel like you’re always ‘on,'” Clark said. “You just have bad days, and those days where you don’t want to talk to anyone, but somebody comes up to you and this is their 10-second interaction with you, so you better smile and be kind. But at the same time, it’s just like, you want to be normal sometimes.”

The easiest part for Watkins to handle will be on the court, where she put together a historic freshman season. Her 920 points set an NCAA freshman scoring record and put her 121 points ahead of Clark’s pace for the all-time Division I scoring record of 3,951 points.

Watkins was named a First Team AP All-American, won the Ann Meyers Drysdale award as the nation’s best shooting guard and led USC to the Elite Eight in her first season. The Trojans could be even better next season with the arrival of star transfer Kiki Iriafen from Stanford, giving Watkins a chance to do one thing Clark never did in college: win a title.
