Las Vegas Aces coach Becky Hammon, once again, has made some strange comments tied to Caitlin Clark.

The Indiana Fever rookie continues to face a bizarre amount of criticism from people who should be thanking her. The WNBA is finally interesting after decades of nobody caring and there’s one reason why:

Caitlin Clark.

She’s brought in tons of new fans, the TV ratings are booming and people are showing an unprecedented level of interest. Yet, some in the league and media seem more interested in tearing down Clark than being grateful for all the newfound attention.

Now, Hammon has claimed black athletes aren’t celebrated.

Becky Hammon makes bizarre comments about Caitlin Clark and race.

Following up comments made last week about Clark, Hammon decided to claim “black and brown greatness has not been celebrated or valued as much.” Yes, that’s a real quote.

“It’s construed as some of our minority black and brown women are hating on her because she’s white and that is not the case. Let’s take Caitlin out of the picture. What I think is upsetting…It’s not about Caitlin. Give her her flowers. She’s done stuff that no man or woman, black or white, has ever done in college basketball. Give that woman her flowers. But what it does is, it has highlighted how black and brown greatness has not been celebrated or valued as much. That’s what I was talking about,” Hammon told the media over the weekend.

To refresh everyone’s memory, Hammon literally told the media last week, “I think this narrative of everybody hating on Caitlin Clark – and even the black and white thing – knock it off. It’s not there. It’s not there.”

Now, she followed that up by claiming black athletes aren’t celebrated in America. What world is she living in? The two most famous basketball players of all-time are Michael Jordan and LeBron James. The greatest boxers ever – Muhammad Ali and Floyd Mayweather – are black. I could go on and on.

In what delusional fantasyland does a person have to live in to honestly believe black athletes aren’t celebrated in America? The NFL is the most powerful league in America, and the majority of players are black.

People didn’t care about the WNBA because it simply wasn’t interesting. Now, that’s changed. Caitlin Clark has injected a level of energy the league has never seen before. Instead of just saying thank you and moving on, people can’t let go of the race angle.

Jemele Hill claims Clark is popular because she’s white and straight, Angel Reese feels the need to snipe, Reese’s mom thinks we’re “children of the corn” people for pointing out the obvious insanity, Natasha Cloud is telling male fans to shut up, A’ja Wilson had to make it all about race and there are plenty more examples.

It’s almost like many involved with the league would rather it fail than admit Caitlin Clark has made it relevant.

Hopefully, people end the nonsense sooner rather than later when it comes to Clark and race. Let me know your thoughts at
