The Fever have won two games in a row for the first time this season
Caitlin Clark was the leading scorer against the Sky with 23 points
The rivalry between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese took center stage once again on Sunday afternoon, as the Indiana Fever triumphed over the Chicago Sky with a 91-83 victory at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
In a game that had the intensity of a playoff showdown, Clark’s stellar performance was pivotal in securing the win for the Fever.
Clark, Fever finding rhythm in June
Caitlin Clark, who has been instrumental in the Fever’s mid-season resurgence, delivered a standout performance with 23 points, eight rebounds, and nine assists.
She set the tone early, making her first three shots and scoring seven points in the opening quarter, matching her total from the previous game against the Atlanta Dream.
The Fever’s victory marked their third win in the last four games, contrasting with the Sky’s current four-game losing streak.
Despite the Sky’s struggles, the game remained competitive until the final moments, with Clark playing a crucial role down the stretch.
She either scored or assisted on nine of the Fever’s last 10 points, showcasing her clutch abilities.
Clark’s impressive performance was complemented by Aliyah Boston, who notched a monster double-double with 19 points, 14 rebounds, four assists, and five blocks.
On the other side, Angel Reese managed to record a double-double of her own with 11 points, 13 rebounds, and five assists, though her efforts were hampered by foul trouble.
Angel Reese’s flagrant foul takes center stage
The rivalry’s intensity was on full display when Reese committed a flagrant foul on Clark late in the third quarter.
As Clark drove to the basket, Reese attempted to block the shot but ended up hitting Clark in the head.
After a closer look, officials assessed Reese with a Flagrant One foul.
Despite the incident, Clark remained unfazed, stating postgame, “Just a part of basketball. It is what it is. Trying to make a play on the ball, get the block. It happens.”
This wasn’t the first time tensions flared between these two players.
Earlier in the season, Reese had notably celebrated a non-basketball foul committed by her teammate Chennedy Carter against Clark.
Reese’s foul troubles persisted, leading to her fifth foul early in the fourth quarter.
Despite this, Sky coach Teresa Witherspoon reinserted Reese into the game with about five minutes remaining, as the Sky tried to close a five-point gap.
Reese, who had led her team with nine points at halftime, finished with 11 points and a team-high 13 rebounds.
Fever & Sky set to meet again next Sunday
Sunday’s game, with its high energy and fierce competition, reflected the intense rivalry and drew considerable attention from fans.
The Fever, now looking to build on their momentum, will face the Washington Mystics at home on Wednesday, June 19.
Meanwhile, the Sky will return to Chicago to host the Dallas Wings on Thursday, June 20, before facing the Fever again next Sunday, June 23, at Wintrust Arena.
