Taylor Swift performs at Wembley Stadium as part of her Eras Tour on Friday, June 21, 2024 in London.

German police arrested an alleged stalker of Taylor Swift on Wednesday night, just before the start of her first concert in Germany as part of ‘The Eras Tour’. The detained man is 34 years-old, originally from the United States.

According to a statement from the Gelsenkirchen police, in western Germany, the individual will remain in custody until Saturday, with the main idea of “avoiding any danger.”

The arrest occurred after the suspect threatened the singer and her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, on social media. According to reports, the threats were made continuously through social networks, which led the police to investigate and locate the suspect.

The arrest took place on July 17, just as the man was trying to enter the concert venue. “As the first investigations could not completely rule out that he presented a danger, the suspect was identified and detained at the access control before the concert,” German police said.

Everything was just an ugly scare

German police assured that, despite the threats, neither Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce, nor the concert attendees were in danger. On Wednesday, around 60,000 people attended the first of three Taylor Swift concerts at the Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen, Germany.

This isn’t the first time Swift has faced issues with stalkers. During the ‘Reputation Stadium Tour’ in 2018, the singer implemented facial recognition technology to keep stalkers away from her.

According to Rolling Stone, Swift’s team set up screens at a kiosk during her Rose Bowl show, showing clips from the singer’s rehearsals. However, these screens concealed facial recognition cameras that took photos of attendees and compared them to a database of known stalkers.

It is unknown if similar technology has been implemented in ‘The Eras Tour’, which began more than a year ago in the United States, and is currently touring Europe having a great despite of these recent information.
