Good Morning Britain was hosted by Kate Garraway and Ed Balls, who later interviewed his wife Yvette Cooper about the recent riots across the country.

Good Morning Britain fans issued the same complaint as Yvette Cooper was interviewed by her husband, Ed Balls.

Ed, 57, teamed up with Kate Garraway for Monday’s instalment (August 5) of the ITV programme. The top story of the day was news of the recent demonstrations organised by far-right groups across UK towns and cities.

There was unrest in Liverpool, Bristol, Manchester, Hull, Stoke-on-Trent, Blackpool and Belfast, with missiles thrown, shops targeted and police attacked in some places.

The duo interviewed a number of guests about the topic, including Yvette, Ed’s wife of 26 years and the current Home Secretary. Kate, 57, appeared to take the lead during the interview, however, Ed still probed his partner on a number of issues surrounding the riots.

This included how social media companies need to handle those sharing “racist” content online, as well as her opinion on police equality in their approach to violence during the riots.

Viewers rushed to complain during the interview as they claimed it was impossible for Ed to be impartial while speaking to his wife. One wrote: “Ed Balls is married to the Home Secretary, Yvette Cooper, it is not ok to use him to host this interview.”

Another agreed: “I said this last week, I’ll say it again… GMB is an absolute joke. They try to make out they are impartial broadcasters. However, they are just about to interview Yvette Cooper, whilst her husband is one of the presenters. They are not interested in balanced journalism.”

A third added: “I don’t think Ed Balls should be interviewing Yvette Cooper on GMB. They’re a married couple. It’s ridiculous.” Another said: “Ed Balls is actually interviewing his wife Yvette Cooper on GMB right now. Not really how we’re supposed to consume news.”
